OPERATIONS MANAGER - HAZARDOUS WASTE - CORK
JOB DESCRIPTION
Our client is one of Ireland’s leading Water and Wastewater
Treatment Plants design & build Contractors.
Responsible for day to day safe and efficient operations of the EPA
licensed Fermoy hazardous waste facility, including managing a team
and the delivery of strong operational performance including
production, asset availability, safety and environmental compliance to
all legislative standards.
Experience in the chemical industry is a requirement for this role.
Day to day management of site operations, including being the
designated person in charge.
Ensuring and maintaining the safety, continuity and efficiency of
waste management operations at Fermoy
Applying chemical knowledge to waste acceptance, logistics and
treatment, including tank farm operations and chemical transfer
processes
Managing the transfer of waste material inputs and outputs from the
Fermoy facility
Working closely with the Technical, Sales and offsite customer support
teams
Lead by example and support the site team to show, promote and
acknowledge positive behaviours and develop a proactive safety
culture.
Work in a collaborative manner with multiple teams to ensure key
requirements are communicated, understood and implemented.
As part of the proactive management of operations, carry out daily
site walk-throughs
Support the development and implementation of waste management
strategies, policies, and procedures in line with regulations
standards.
Support the provision of adequate and appropriate training to ensure
the site has sufficient resources (competent staff and appropriate
equipment) to operate safely and to optimal performance
Working with our risk and assurance and technical team to support the
interaction with internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis
in a professional manner, including external regulators - HSA, EPA,
and neighbours (Commercial / Residential), visitors, clients and
contractors
Manage the safe and effective operation of the assets required to
support the facility / site
Knowledge of functional safety / protected electrical equipment as
required by role
Designated role as identified in the emergency management plan / major
accident prevention plan
Manage abnormal and emergency situations i.e. accidents/environmental
incidents, spillages
Maintain and improve operational excellence - apply best practice,
safety standards and support consistency between other sites within
Hazardous Waste
Manage the Fermoy facility in line with the Minimum Requirements
toolkit standard, Environmental Permit requirements, relevant ISO
standards, Management System and any other relevant standards (e.g.
COMAH)
Support the investigation of accidents, incidents, significant close
calls and audit/inspection non-conformities on the Safety Management
system
Ensure daily / weekly checks are carried out including plant,
equipment and permit checks
Stay updated on current regulations and industry trends related to
hazardous waste management.
Report and deal with (if appropriate) contamination, non-compliant
waste / product and any service, safety and environmental concerns
Assist in establishing annual goals and objectives while supporting
the strategy for the business unit
Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement in line
with our purpose of ecological transformation
This role may require occasional travel to different waste disposal
facilities or regulatory agencies.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor *;s degree in environmental science,
chemistry, or a related field. A master *;s
degree is beneficial.
Waste management qualification is beneficial
Experience in the chemical industry is a requirement for this role.
Environmental Science background/qualification is an advantage for the
role
7 years proven operations and technical experience, preferably in the
pharmaceutical or chemical industry
Hazardous Waste management experience
Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of
performing to a high level with energy, drive and a strong ability to
implement continuous improvements
Computer literate - must have the ability to use Microsoft & Google
Applications
